Audience Adaptation Plan
1. Audience analysis: Almost all my audience is from university, and according to my interview to many college students, they really sleep very late. Thus, I think this situation is very serious and I want them to understand more about this issue.
2. Background knowledge: In fact, even though staying up is a common failing among college students, they all know that staying up is not good for health.
3. Creating and maintaining interest: I will start with two rhetorical questions to let them think to themselves. Moreover, I put some interesting and provoking pictures to attract my audience's attention.
4. Organization: I will begin with the definition of staying up, the introduction of the bad habit—staying up, the six main disadvantages of staying up, the supplements for staying up, and then the conclusion.
5. Building credibility: I found some studies from the Net, and I also did a little study myself—I asked fifty college students about their sleeping habit. I will mention and cite my sources during my speech.
6. Motivation: I strongly recommend my audience that staying up is a bad habit; try their best not to do it.

Thesis statement: People should not stay up because staying up would cause many disadvantages.
Body
I. The definition of staying up.
A. According to Ms.賴姿吟, a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine, going to bed over 11 pm at night might be considered as staying up.
II. Staying up has become a bad habit among modern people.
A. Generally, college students might not go to sleep until 12, or even later..
B. Some people work very hard, for example, working overtime. Thus, they go to sleep late.
C. Some children sleep late because their parents sleep late, according to the news,〈補習、看電視、打電動想早睡也難〉, in Chinatimes on October 3 of 2007.
III. Disadvantages of staying up.
A. About health
i. The first disadvantage—headache.
ii. The second disadvantage—liver becomes worse.
iii. The third disadvantage—the decline of immune system.
iv. The fourth disadvantage—the decline of fertility.
v. The fifth disadvantage—the increase of the possibility of suffering chronic diseases.
B. About energy
i. Staying up would waste energy because people would turn on
the light, computer, TV all night long.
C. About relationship with others
i. Disputes with others who people live with because of different life style.
ii. Staying up would make people get mad easily, so they tend to lose their temper.
D. About the day after staying up.
i. People would have bad mood because they do not sleep well.
ii. People cannot concentrate their work or learning.
IV. Advantages of going to bed early.
A. Stay healthy.
B. Saving energy.
C. Good relationship with others.
D. Have a good spirit the next day.
V. Therefore, try your best not to stay up.

A. According to Ms. Lai Zi-yin, a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine, going to bed over 11 pm at night might be considered as staying up.

III. The first disadvantage—the condition of skin would become worse
A. The period from 11 pm to 3am is called "beauty sleep." Damages like being coarse, black spots and pimples would be doing on the skin if people do not go to sleep during this period.
IV. The second disadvantage—headache
A. Because the brain cells could not rest well, people would easily feel dizzy, become scatterbrained or even reduce the faculty of memory.
V. The third disadvantage—liver function becomes worse
A. Liver cannot do its job—detoxification—during this time if people are still awake.
VI. The fourth disadvantage—the decline of fertility
A. For men, it would affect sperm production and quality.
B. For women, it would affect hormone secretion(荷爾蒙分泌), ovum(卵子) quality and menstrual period(經期).
VII. The fifth disadvantage—the increase of the possibility of suffering chronic diseases.
A. The process of metabolism (新陳代謝) would be much harder because the hormone secretion, like adrenalin (腎上激素), would be higher than common people.
VIII. The sixth disadvantage—the decline of immune system
A. People would tend to catch flu, gastrointestinal diseases and allergy.
IX. Try your best not to stay up late. Once it really happened, according to the study in Dajiyuan on January 22, 2005 by 陳德如 , there are some things you can do to remedy.
A. Have a sound sleep the next day.
B. Supplement nutrition, especially foods including vitamin B, C and E, like wholewheat bread, fruits, milk and liver.
C. Take light exercise, such as taking a walk, playing badminton or Ping-Pong.

1. Speaking directly to members of the audience: I will speak to the audience directly. I will deliver my speech slowly so that every one can understand.
2. Building credibility: I will apply some specific statistics from magazines and on the Net. I also clipped the pages of Facebook form the Net. Furthermore, I myself is one of the members on Facebook.
3. Getting and maintaining interest: I think my audience would like my speech as they know what I will represent, because here in Taiwan, the Net is relatively accessible, and we all know that maintaining a good relationship with others is very important. Therefore, I consider Facebook to be an interesting topic that everyone likes.
4. Facilitating understanding: I will apply Microsoft Power Point to make my presentation clearer. And I will show the processes to utilize Facebook.
5. Increasing retention: I will use pictures to make my audience remember the points well. Moreover, I will repeat my points in my speech.

Thesis Statement: Four largest traits of Facebook, the social utility website.
Body:
I. Facts about Facebook.
A. The founder, Mark Zuckerberg, according to Digital Times, the magazine.
B. Legends of Facebook.
C. The capital.
D. The amount of the registered users.
II. Safety.
A. According to the official website of Facebook, you can protect your information and profile from others you don't know.
B. You can lock your profile whenever you like.
III. Maintenance.
A. According to Jennifer Jones's son whose statement appearing in his mother's blog, you can maintain your relationship with those who you still get contact with now. Furthermore, I myself is a registered member on Facebook.
B. According to Fai Wong's own experience, you can also re-contact with your old friends.
IV. Expansion.
A. Within groups you join, you can make with those who have the same interests as you.
V. Economical fun.
A. Almost every item and gift is free.
B. All the pictures and programs are interesting.
Conclusion: Facebook is a platform where you can enhance or even explore harmonious relationship with others. In addition, you still can enjoy the safety as you use the communicative tool--only can your friends be accessible to your profile. Since Facebook is such an economical and protected social utility website, just begin to enjoy yourselves on Facebook.

Topic: I am a book lover.
1. How relevant will the audience find this material to be?
Through the speech, the audience can know more about my reading habits.
How can I demonstrate that the material is timely, proximate, and has personal impact to the members of this audience?
Lots of the audience love to read, and some of them have their own books. Under this situation, everybody might understand the must and mustn't of treating books to show their respect to the books.
2. How can I make it easier for audience members to comprehend the information I will share?
I will carry out some methods of protecting books. Most people know how but sometimes I would still get mad because of the ways they ruin books without noticing. Therefore, I'd like to represent how to help books keep from disasters and damages.
3. What common ground do audience members share with each other and with me?
It is obvious that the majority of the audience is my age, and from the same culture. I would like to share how I treat my books, and I hope every book they own can live longer. Therefore, I think this topic is quite important for most of us.
4. What I can do to enhance my credibility?
Here I got some information from the Net. Most of them were librarians who provided tips of keeping books from damages. And I found that we applied almost the same principles.
5. What is my audience's initial attitude toward my speech topic likely to be?
Most audience might consider it is a relatively common one, and even ignore it as they know what topic I will put forward. Yet in my speech they would understand that how important it is to extend the life span of books.
6. What language or culture differences do audience members have with each other and with me?
I will speak in English which is our second language, so I would not use too arduous terms to convey my speech. In case there are some words that are hard to comprehend clearly I will explain them in another way again.

Thesis statement: The importance of protecting books and four hints of dealing the books of book lovers will be represented to the audience.
Body
I. Before I had enough money to buy books for myself, I would borrow books from the library of the school. Usually, I found that almost every book was damaged.
A. There were blots of ink, stains of drinks, and even dead bugs on the leaves.
B. The leaves would turn yellow.
C. Sometimes the books smelled bad.
D. The book covers would fall off from the books.
II. After I bought myself books, I became more and more anxious as my books got damaged.
A. Sometimes I folded my loved books accidentally or stained the pages and cover with water.
B. When I retrieved my books from others, my book cover would get some blots.
III. I try to protect my books.
A. I would pay more attention not to damage books.
B. I will warn those who want to borrow my books to be careful about books.
IV. Some hints are given to those who want to preserve their books.
A. Handle books with freshly washed hands.
B. When removing a book from the shelf, do not pull it out by its headcap, which is apt to break.
C. Use only paper bookmarks, rather than metal or leather, which will tear or stain the pages.
D. Avoid eating, drinking, and smoking around books as the spills and stains are generally permanent.
