Audience Adaptation Plan

1. Audience attitude: Today, it is very normal for a family to own a car. Some wealthy families even have more than one car. But do they really need so many cars or do they buy cars just because other people are buying too? They do not know they could make a difference if they do not buy cars.

2. Reasons: I believe there are three reasons that can convince my audience not to buy cars, first, cars cost lot of money; second, cars producing pollutions and third, cars can be replaced by mass transportation.

3. Selecting an organization to meet audience needs: First I'll give them personal experience to raise the question. Second, I'll give them the number of cars in Taiwan and compare it with other countries', and it will show that there are too many cars in Taiwan. Third, I'll give them three reasons why we do not need cars. Finally, I'll go back to the question I asked in the beginning of the speech and make a short conclusion.

Speech Goal

I want to convince the audience that we do not need so many cars in our life.

Introduction

I. Recently, I have noticed that some of my friends have more than one car in their family.

II. I am very curious about how many cars are there in Taiwan and in other countries.

III. Do we really need so many cars?

Thesis Statement

There are three good reasons for not needing so many cars and in our daily life: they cost a lot of money, they cause pollutions, and last, they can be replaced by mass transportation.

Body

I. According to the Car Magazine, owning a car really cost a lot of money.

A. The average cost for a new car per year is NT$140 thousand.

1. If you buy a 1300cc small car the average cost is NT$350 thousand.

2. Details for spending.

B. The average life span for a car is ten years, so if you start driving from age 30 to 80 you'll have to buy 5 cars.

1. So the total number you have to spend on cars is NT$ 5million.

II. Cars produce pollution to the environment.

A. When the gasoline burns, it produces carbon dioxin.

1. According to the statistic, cars produce 58% carbon dioxin in Taiwan.

2. Carbon dioxin is the main reason for global warming.

3. Carbon dioxin can make acid rain.

B. The gasoline can not be burnt completely every time, and thus produces carbon monoxide.

1. Carbon monoxide is the main reason for air pollution.

III. Mass transportation in Taiwan has developed rapidly, so you can get to almost every where without driving your car.

A. Take Taipei for example, we have MRT and buses.

1. The MRT can reach many different places.

2. In Taipei, buses are every where, and it cost you only NT$12.

B. Taking mass transportation is a good way to save your money.

1. Take myself for example, I don't have any cars so the only way for me to move around in the city is mass transportation

2. Usually I spend NT$3000 per month on transportation. If I keep taking public transportation for 50years, I will have to spend NT$ 1'800'000.

C. Mass transportation produces less pollution to the environment than cars do.

Conclusion

Back to the question I asked at the beginning, since driving cars costs a lot, produces pollutions and can be replaced by mass transportation, do we really need so many cars?

Speech Plan

Speaking directly to the audience

Through the speech I will talk to my audiences directly with a casual tone as if we are having a daily conversation.

Building credibility

I took a year of golf course in college and I acquired all of my golf knowledge from this course. I will talk about what I have learned in the golf course.

Getting and maintaining interest

I will tell them the advantage of playing golf and I will give them some basic knowledge about golf, including its history and how to play it.  I believe after hearing my speech, audiences will acquire useful knowledge about golf and will have more interest in golf.

Facilitating understanding

Since learning something without doing it yourself always makes the whole learning process boring and abstract, I will use photos to explain and show my audiences the correct way/pose to play golf.

Increasing retention

I will teach my audiences in a step by step sequence so that they can totally follow what I am talking about.  And visual aids can help them understand.

Speech Outline

SPECIFIC SPEECH GOAL:  I want my audience to acquire basic knowledge of golf and enhance their interests in golf.

INTRODUCTION:

I.        Why do I want to talk about golf?

II.     What advantage does playing golf have?

THESIS STATEMENT:  Basic knowledge of golf, for example golf history, useful terms in golf and the easiest way to play golf. 

BODY

I.        The history of golf.

A.     Golf has appeared in three countries' history.

B.     The most agreed one was originated in Scotland.

II.     Golf terms you have to know.

A.     Par

B.     Tees

C.     Golf clubs

1.      Pitching wedge

2.      Sand wedge

3.      Putter

D.     Putting Green

III. How to play golf?

A.     How to hold the club?

B.     Swing the club and hit the ball!

C.     Where is the ball?

CONCLUSION

I think after my brief introduction of golf my audiences may have more interest in golf, and I strongly suggest everyone to take a golf course in college because no where else can learn it with such low prices.

Since every classmates came from different senior high school, they might be interested in this topic.

2. How can I make it easier for audience members to comprehend the information I will share?

I will give several experiences to explain why I think it is so special about my school.

3. What common ground do audience members share with each other and with me?

We were all senior high school students before we went to college.

4. What I can do to enhance my credibility?

I will share some experiences.

5. What is my audience's initial attitude toward my speech topic likely to be?

My audience might have some stereotype for people who went to the same senior high school with me.

6. What language or culture differences do audience members have with each other and with me?

No, but English is our second language.

Specific goal: To share my senior high school life, and to clarify people's stereotype about my school.

Introduction: I would start with why do I choose this topic, and what am I going to talk about.

Thesis statement: I would let my audience know that people in my school are not bookworms, in fact, we are very unity.

Body:

I. Our school trying to build sense of belonging and try to teach us how to cooperate with other people.

a. By helding contest.

b. By creating slogans.

Conclusion

I think it was really special to have a chance to go to my school. And if I can go back to the past, I will go to my school again. After all I had a really great time and had a lot of precious experiences.
