Speech title: Donate blood today!

 

Audience Adaptation Plan

1. Audience attitude:

When I asked some of my audience if they ever donate blood or not, I found most of my audience have never donated blood before. Some of them think it is none of our business, some afraid of needles and even some think it waste their time because they can not direct benefits back.

 2. Reason:

I believe that the priority of getting blood is most likely to convince my audience. And that donating blood has benefits such as donating blood is good for the heart, blood donors can get free mini health check, and their 250 milliliter blood can save so many victims of disasters.

3. Selecting an organization to meet audience needing:

My goal is to motivate my audience members to take action, so I will provide them with incentives to act that outweigh the costs. That is, I will demonstrate how they can increase the likelihood hat they will fulfill their unmet needs by enhancing their self-concept and self-actualization.

Since the majority of my audience has no experience of donating blood and even some of them hate needles, I will illustrate a major reason to make them believe that they should donate blood right away. And then I will draw their attention by provide three benefits and answer some frequently asked question to motivate them to take the action.

Speech Goal

I want to motive my audience members to take action of donating blood right away. 

Introduction

I.       When mention donating blood, some of you may think it's none of my business, and I will tell you why we should take action right away.

II.     Such act of charity do not expect to receive any direct benefit from the donation is very grand and noble.

Thesis Statement

    All of us will face a time in which we will need blood and there are many benefits of donating blood including donors can get priority to be given blood and free mini health check, and it is good for heart. And for students, donating is the easy way to help others, so we all should take action to donate.

Body

I.                A ll of us will face a time in which we will need blood. And that time is all too often unexpected such as earthquakes, floods, fires, storms and so many disasters that all require a gift of blood. We don't know who will need blood transfusion tomorrow. It can be your friend or dear one. So we should take action right away.

 

II.         There are three benefits about donating blood.  

A.     According to the Taiwan Blood Services Foundation, donors will have priority over others to be given blood.

 

B.   Besides, donating blood is good for the heart. It may reduce the risk of heart disease of men and stimulate the generation of red blood cells. Recent studies have shown that men who gave blood three times a year reduced their risk of a heart attack by more than 50 percent.

 

C.    Donors can get free mini health check like blood pressure check, cholesterol screening, temperature and pulse readings and iron level testing. And the donor will be examined for hepatitis B and C, AIDS, etc, at the same time.

 

III.             Here are some frequently asked questions that I want to answer to my audience. 

A.   Is donating blood safe? Will I get hepatitis B or AIDS from donation blood?

Donating blood is a safe process. Needles and bags used to collect blood are used only once and then discarded. There is no risk of contracting AIDS or any other disease through the donation process.   

B. Will it make me weak?

The vast majority of people will not feel any different because of the donation. A very small percentage may experience temporary dizziness, but some rest and fluids will help you feel better quickly.  Your body will replace the lost blood within 24 hours.

 

IV.  I want to evoke positive emotions:

We are just students we don't make lots of money so it's not affordable for we students to make a financial gift. But donating blood to help others gives we poor students no burden at all. It is and easy way to help people in this society. 

Conclusion

Since we know that all of us will face a time in which we will need blood and there are many benefits of donating blood.  We all should try our best to help many victims of disasters. And we are only a few steps away form saving a life. So donate blood today!

Speech title: Learning the Guitar can be Easy and Fun

 

Adaptation Plan

1.      Speaking directly to the audience:

      I will demonstrate some basic ways of playing guitar and talk to my audience directly and slowly in my speech so that my audience can understand my speech.

2.      Building credibility:

From the start I will sing a song with my guitar to add my credibility. And then I will show my audience how to play this song step by step.      

3.      Getting and maintaining interest:

I will start my speech by showing my audience a song in order to arouse their curiosity. 

4.      Facilitating understanding:

I will use visual aids (power point) to let my audience identify the parts of the guitar. And I will bring my guitar and my pick to let my audience know better about the proper posture.  

5.      Increasing retention:

I will use some visual aids and my guitar to increase retention.

 

Speech Outline

Specific speech goal:

I want my audience not merely to have a basic understanding of playing guitar but enjoy the world of guitar as well.

Introduction:  

I going to show my audience some basics that they need to learn for playing the guitar in a short period of time.

    Thesis statement:

I want to bring my audience to the world of guitar and let them understand learning guitar can be easy and fun. By this speech, I want my audience know playing guitar can be fun and interesting.

   

Body:

I.            The first part is showing my audience to know the names of many parts of the guitar.

A. "Headstock"is a general term which describes the part of the guitar attached to the slimmer neck of the instrument.   

B.    On the headstock are"tuners", which we will use to adjust the pitch of each of the strings on the guitar.

C. At the point in which the headstock meets the neck of the guitar, we can find the "nut." 

D. The "neck" of the guitar is the area of the instrument we will concentrate a great deal on.

E. The neck of the guitar adjoins the "body" of the instrument, in which we will vary greatly from guitar to guitar.

F. "Sound hole" is designed to project the sound of the guitar.

 

II.                   I will show my audience how to hold a guitar.

A.  Get an armless chair, and take a seat.

B.  Pick up the guitar, and hold it so the back of the body of the instrument comes in contact with our chest, and the bottom of the neck runs parallel to the floor.

C. When playing the guitar sitting down, the body of the guitar will rest on one of our legs.

D. Concentrate on the hand that is close to the neck of the guitar.

III.          I will demonstrate how to hold a pick.

   A. Open the picking hand, and turn the palm to face us.

   B. Close our hands to make a very loose fist. The thumb should remain beside the index finger.

C. Rotate the hand until it is profile.

D. Be sure the pointed end of the pick is protruding by about a half an inch. Hold the pick firmly.

 

IV.                       I will demonstrate tree basic guitar chords to my audience.

A. Playing a chord involves using your pick to strike at least two notes (often more) on the guitar simultaneously.

B.  Playing a C major chord.

C. Playing a G major chord

D. Playing a D major chord

V.                          Show my audience how to play a simple song called "Hey Jude" by using G major, C major, and D major chords.

 

Conclusion

After showing some basic ways of playing the guitar, I believe my audience can know better about guitar and enjoy the world of guitar as well. Besides, instead of being bombarded by confusing material, my audience will be aroused interest by my step-by-step instructions. In a word, I want my audience to understand playing guitar can be as easy as trying their shoes. Everyone can play guitar!

Topic:

Audience Adaptation

1. How relevant will the audience find this material to be?

Though most of my audience didn't have a chance to see my performance of playing guitar and singing, but I do know most of my audiences know I love music and singing.

2. How can I make it easier for audience members to comprehend the information I will share?

I'll take my personal experience of playing guitar as an example to help my audience understand me more.

3. What common ground do audience members share with each other and with me?

I believe that music is pretty common interest that everyone have. Thus, I choose this topic to share with my audience. Besides, I do like to sing or play my guitar in front of my classmates, so maybe some of my audience may have seen my performance before.

4. What I can do to enhance my credibility?

My performance of playing guitar and singing in daily life is definitely enough to make my audience believe that I do love playing guitar.

5. What is my audience's initial attitude toward my speech topic likely to be?

There are some of my classmates told me that they like my performance and I believe that the speech topic of mine would make them feel interested toward my later speech.

6. What language or culture differences do audience members have with each other and with me?

I think my audience can totally understand what I say. But one thing I do worry about is my nervousness. It would make my speech not easy to be understood. However, I will try hard to overcome this problem.

I'm going to share my experiences of learning guitar to help my audience gain more ideas about me and understand me more than ever.

A. I tried learning the guitar and gave up twice before I finally got motivated and dedicated enough to stick on.

B. My first try was a really short thing that lasted only 2 days.

C. My second try happened when I was a freshman.

D. My third successful try happened during this year.

Thesis Statement:

I want to share my experience of learning guitar with my audience.

Body:

I. I gave up learing guitar twice before I finally get dedicated enough to stick on.

A. My first try was a really short thing that lasted only 2 days, when I was much younger. My neighbor's elder brother had a guitar, and we was entranced by how cool it was to play it. We tried to learn it, but with no real mentor and lessons, we gave up pretty quickly.

II. My second try happened when I was a freshman.

It was when I met this really cool guy Jay. Actually, he's the guitar club leader. And I was impressed by his performance. That is freaking awesome! For him, I joined the guitar club. Well, he did teach me how to play guitar, and I tried my best to learn whatever I can. However, assignments came, everything piled up, so I just let my guitar lying around in your dorm, doing nothing but gathering dust.

III. My third successful try was during this year.

A. He is short, a little fat and has a plain face. But after I saw his amazing performance, I had the fire in my heart to learn to play guitar again. So I attend his guitar every week and practice guitar almost everyday.

B. The teacher doesn't focus on dry music theory - it teaches you how to get to playing well, fast.

C. Finally, my playing sounds like music, and it wasn't hard to get to that level.

IV.

A. Now, I stared to play and sing in my dorm and enjoy myself. And I really thank my roommates because they have to bear with the "noise" I make for a long time.

B. Maybe one day I would become a superstar and play my guitar on the stage.

Conclusion:

I think my ultimate purpose is not merely introduce my interest to my audience but to tell them that if we want to learn or get something, then go and get it. Sometimes it is not that hard as we imagine. So just do it!
