Persuasive speech: Doing Recycle Is Important

Adaptation Plan

1. Audience attitude: I have observed that many students in our school know how to do recycle, but seldom of them know why they should do recycle. Thus, many students do not recycle when they are busy; some students even forget to recycle when they are chatting. I believe my audience may approve recycle, and my purpose is to increase their determination to do recycle.

2. Reasons: I believe that the three reasons that are most likely to convince my audience are that recycling can reduce landfill, that doing recycle can save energy, that doing recycle is important not only to environment but also to people.

3. Selecting an organization to meet audience attitude: I have organized my speech in a way that audience will gradually recognize that recycling is related to their lives, and by the end of the speech, the audience will remember that recycling is important to them.

Speech Outline

Speech goal: I want to convince members of audience that they should certainly recycle.

Introduction

I. You can find much recyclable garbage in general rubbish can of our school.

II. I have ever seen student throw Tetra Pak in general rubbish can rather than recycle trashcan.

III. Many people know how to do recycle, but seldom of them why they should do recycle.

Thesis statement: There are three reasons for doing recycle: it can reduce landfill, it can save energy, and it can protect not only environment but also people.

Body

I. Doing recycle can reduce landfill.

A. Landfill is the oldest and most common way of waste treatment.

B. However, landfill has many bad impacts.

1. Landfill will damage infrastructure.

2. Landfill will pollute local environment, such as water and soil contamination.

3. Landfill will further injuries wildlife and human being.

C. Thus, recycle is the best and most obvious to alternative landfill, because recycle can efficiently reuse those wastes.

II. The second reason to do recycle is that it can save energy.

A. Doing recycle can save energy for powering television, computer and light bulb.

1. 1 recycled glass bottle would save enough energy to power a computer for 25 minutes.

2. 1 recycled plastic bottle would save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb for 3 hours.

3. 1 recycled tin can would save enough energy to power a television for 3 hours.

III. The third reason to do recycle is that recycling is important not only to environment but also to people.

A. Doing recycle is important to environment.

1. Recycling helps to reduce the pollution caused by waste.

2. Recycling reduces the need for raw materials so that the rainforests can be preserved.

3. Recycling requires much less energy and therefore helps to preserve natural resources.

B. Doing recycle is important to human beings.

1. Recycling can save our space.

2. Recycling reduces financial expenditure in the economy.

3. Recycling preserves natural resources for future generations.

Conclusion

Doing recycle has so many advantages. Just spend few seconds recognizing whether the item is recyclable, and you can save the world. Why don't we recycle?

Speech title: Caning as a penalty for sex offenders.

Audience Adaptation Plan

1. Audience analysis: Almost all my audience is 20-21 years old college students. I've asked many of them about their opinions on this topic. I found that their opinions are very different. Some people are totally support this idea, some people are against it because they thought that it was inhumanity and most people said that they didn't understand how to execute it, so they have no idea. I think that it's controversial topic foe the audience.

2. Background knowledge: Although my audience holds different opinions on this topic, I think that they don't understand caning very much and they don't know the serious situations of sexual abuses in Taiwan.

3. Creating and maintaining interest: I will start with some pictures to get the audience's attention and make them understand that it's a serious problem that would probably happen around us.

4. Organization: I will start with the situations in Taiwan and make the audience understand what really happen near us. Then, I will tell the audience why we should support caning for rapers. In the last part, I will show the effectiveness of caning.

5. Building credibility: I will use some chart and statistics to make the audience know better about the real situations. Also, I will take Singapore as a successful example to convince my audience.

6. Motivation: I think that since the crime rate got higher and higher, sex offenders should take some strict punishment rather than just stay in jail for few years.

Outline

Speech title: Caning as a penalty for sex offenders.

Speech goal: I want to convince my audience that we should support caning as a punishment for sexual abuses.

Introduction:

I. Use some pictures of smiles to be the lead-in of my speech.

II. Tell the audience those smiles might fall away because they might be forced to confront something bad

Thesis statement:

I'd like to talk about the situations of sexual abuses in Taiwan, the reasons why I support caning as a penalty for sex offenders and the effectiveness and execution of caning.

Body:

I. To talk about the situations of sexual abuses in Taiwan

A. Look at this chart and see that the crime rate of sex abuses got higher than before.

B. Look at the next statistics and see that the number of the victims

II. The reasons why I support caning as a penalty for sex offenders

A. According to our criminal law, the penalties for rapers is not heavy.

B. The rapers are easy to recommit the crime.

C. There are no effective ways to monitor the rapers after they're discharged from prison

III. The effectiveness and execution of caning

A. Singapore is famous for their strict law and caning and their crime rate is low.

B. Some reflections about caning which were written by the foreigners who ever experienced caning in Singapore.

C. Caning is not a brutal punishment treating criminals as animals.

D. How Singaporean executes caning.

Conclusion:

Of course, we can't avoid any accidents absolutely. But at least we can try to lower the risks. Now there's a website people can cosign to support legislate for caning. If you're interested in it, please ask me.

Speech Topic: Wash your new clothes before you wear them

1. Audience attitude:

I find that many people do not wash their new clothes before wear them. They like to put them on directly because they think it does not matter. Some of people do mind that others may try it on before, but they are just lazy to wash it. Only a few of people wash new clothes before they wear them. I want to give my audience more information about what chemicals exist on new clothes, and how do the chemicals do to our health. And let my audience know it is a better way to wash new clothes.

2. Reasons:

In order to convince my audience, I will focus on introducing chemicals on clothes, its purpose and disadvantages. Besides, I will also inform them that we never know how many people had tried the clothes on before.

3. Selecting an organization to meet audience needs:

Because most of people think it does not matter or feel lazy to wash, I will strengthen on that new clothes seemed so clean but actually, hide the chemicals which would harm people. Besides, I will offer some unease which would happen to make them pay attention to it. I think this kind of organization will make my audience clearly about the disadvantages of not washing new clothes.

Outline

Speech goal: I want to convince my audience they should wash new clothes once before they wear them.

Introduction:

I. We buy new clothes in daily life, say, a class T-shirt, nice pants as present or a heavy coat for the winter.

II. Will you wash them once before wear them, after buying new clothes?

III. Do you think it does not matter whether if new clothes should be washed before you wear them?

IV. I asked ten people around me if they wash new clothes before wearing them, and the result becomes that up to seven people do not wash their new clothes.

Thesis statement: The major reason for washing new clothes is to remove the chemical on them. Besides, we never know how many people had tried the clothes on before we buy them.

Body

I. Chemicals on clothes harm people.

A. Clothes may contain chemicals like Formaldehyde, or dye.

B. Formaldehyde that keeps clothes wrinkle free, disinfected that manufactures put on clothes is considered a cancer causing agent.

C. Excess dye on clothes can come off onto people's skin and harm people.

II. We do not know how many had tried the clothes on.

A. New clothes we buy are likely to be tried on before.

B. We never know how other people's personal hygiene is who had tried the clothes on.

III. You may feel uncomfortable without washing new clothes.

A. Exposure to these chemicals on clothes may cause rashes, and other allergic reactions to eyes and skin.

B. Exposure to these chemicals may also cause respiratory problems.

Conclusion:

I. I strongly recommend you to wash new clothes before you wear them.

II. Washing new clothes can reduce those chemicals, making you feel carefree.

III. It won't take you too much time but protect you away from carcinogen. So wash your new clothes.

Speech title: We are all Taiwanese           

 

Audience Adaptation Plan

1.      Audience attitude: Nowadays, more and more people start to notice the ethnic problem in Taiwan, but "noticing" is different form "understanding." Because people haven't understood the seriousness of separation yet, they just let the politicians freely raised the ethnic conflict before the election instead of blaming them on this kind of behavior. I think my audiences may have the same concept with the majority people.

2.      Reasons: I believe that the bad consequence of separation (death, war, and economic recession) and the advantage of cooperation (bring us success) can most likely convince my audience that we really should stop producing the ethnic conflict.

3.      Selecting an organization to meet audience needs: I'll gradually lead my audience to the center of this topic by using a logical organization. First I'll show them the origin as well as people's concept about the ethnic problem in Taiwan. Then I'll tell them why we should work together instead of separating from each other by examples. Finally I'll let my audience to imagine a situation by themselves in order to think deeply about this issue again.

 

Outline

1. Speech goal: I want to convince my audience that we should not produce ethnic conflict anymore because only working together can make Taiwan better.

2. Introduction:

   I. According to the statistic of Taiwan Thinktank, last 12 years, there are more and more people start to notice the seriousness of ethnic problem in Taiwan.

  II. But "noticing" doesn't mean "understanding," and only few people really think of this problem seriously.

 III. If we don't pay more attention to this problem and try to solve it, the ethnic gap will become bigger and bigger. It is not a good phenomenon for the society.

4.      Thesis statement: We should not produce the ethnic separation, because historical events and our experiences show us that separation will only bring us death, war, and economic recession, but cooperation can help us succeed.

5.      Body:

  I. Generally, people separate 外省人from 本省人(indigenous people) by using the time when they came to Taiwan.

A.     We regard the people who came from China before 1949 as indigenous people, and regard the people who came from China after 1949 as 外省人.

B.     If we use the time when people came here to determine the ethnic groups, maybe only aborigines can call themselves Taiwanese.

  II. Although almost all the people of our generation were born in Taiwan, the ethnic issue was still raised.

A.     Our politicians are used to produce ethnic conflict before the election in order to win more votes.

 III. There are two historical events shows us that separation will bring us death, war, and economic recession.

A.     The American Civil War was caused by the ethnic separation. Nearly 620,000 soldiers died in that battle.

B.     The Korean War made Korea separated into two countries, and damaged the economy of both nation.

C.     Separation will

IV. Three examples can prove that cooperation will bring us success.

A.     Ancient people found that cooperation could make life easier, so they formed family, country, and society system. Our civilization started from these.

B.     In 1980'S, Taiwanese people worked together and created the so-called "Taiwan's Economic Miracle."

C.     Two years ago, we won the Chinese Drama Competition by working together.

6. Conclusion

   We need that kind of belonging which we have when watching the baseball game of王建民. We all live in this island and we want it become better and better in the future. That's why we should always work together instead of separating from each other. We are all Taiwanese, so let us work together.
