Audience Adaptation Plan
AUDIENCE ATTITUDE: When I observed people, I found that more and more
people get used to turning on the air-conditioner in summer days. There was a
general belief that they were supposed to turn on the air-conditioner to get rid of
the hot summer. But sometimes people even turn on the air-conditioner in cool days.
REASONS: I believe that the three advantages that are most likely to convince the audience are saving one's money, doing one's health good, and rescuing the Earth if people reduce the time of turning on the air-conditioner.
SELECTING AN ORGAIZATION TO MEET AUDIENCE NEEDS: Since people tend to regard turning on the air-conditioner as a habit, I have organized my speech in such a way that it will enhance the momentum to show how important it is to reduce the time of turning on the air-conditioner.
OUTLINE
SPECIFIC GOAL: I want to persuade my audience that turning off the air-conditioner is better than turning on it.
INTRODUCTION
Ⅰ.What do you usually do in the sweltering summer days?
Ⅱ. According to Taiwan Power Company, the summer electric consumption per user increases about 50%, from 307 kilowatt hour per month to 449 kilowatt hour per month, compared to other seasons.
THESIS STATEMENT: There are three advantages for reducing the time of turning on the air-conditioner: it will save your money, it can do good to your health, and it can rescue the Earth.
BODY
Ⅰ. Reducing the time of turning on the air-conditioner will enable you to save your money.
A. According to Taiwan Power Company, the electric bill per kilowatt hour in summer is higher than in non-summer seasons.
B. For example, from 331 to 500 kilowatt hour, the price is 3.36 per kilowatt hour in summer, and 2.73 per kilowatt hour in non-summer seasons.
Ⅱ. Reducing the time of turning on the air-conditioner will enable you to live a
healthier life.
A. The longer one stays in the air-conditioned room, the more possible one suffers from arthralgia because of the consistent low temperature.
B. People are also likely to suffer from some respiratory diseases and arid skin because of the dry air.
Ⅲ. Reducing the time of turning on the air-conditioner will rescue the only Earth people have.
A. The exhaust which produced by air-conditioners will cause air pollution as well as global warming.
CONSLUSION
Ⅰ. To save your money, do your health good, and the most of all, to rescue the Earth, please reduce the time of turning on the air-conditioner.
Ⅱ. I would strongly encourage you to consider these things before turning on the air-conditioner. Make a second thought if it is worth turning on the air-conditioner.
