Speech Plan           

 

Topic: Brief Introduction to Kyoto

 

1. Speaking directly to members of the audience:

    I will ask rhetorical question to them at first of my speech to let the audience

know I am talking to them directly.

2. Building credibility:

    I will use some statistics to sustain my points. And I will also tell the audience

that I have been there twice to enhance my credibility.

3. Getting and maintaining interest:

    At first, I will ask the audience rhetorical question to get their attention. Then, I

will show lot of pictures to audience for maintaining their interest.

4. Facilitating understanding:

    I will provide the information as clearly as I can. And I will use power point

slides as my visual aid.

5. Increasing retention:

    By presenting a lot of pictures to audience, I will help the audience to remember the spots I introduce to them.

 

Speech Outline 

Specific Goal:

I would like to introduce some worth visiting spots in Kyoto, so it can be helpful when they have chance to visit there.

Introduction:

. Do you know which city in Japan has the thickest Japanese taste? The answer is Kyoto.

. There are numerous historical sites in Kyoto. And 17 of them have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

. Kyoto is also famous for its food because it is simple but delicate.

.Kyoto is one of the most popular tourist cities in Japan.

Thesis Statement:

I'd like to introduce the three most famous heritage sites and some well-know food in Kyoto.

 

 

Body:

 . First place I'd like to introduce is Kinkaku-ji.

   A. It was originally built in 1937 to serve as retirement villa for Ashikaga Yoshimitsu.

   B. The structure of Kinkaku-ji.

   C. Kyoto people say that the best season to visit Kinkakuji is in cold winter.

 . Second site is Ginkaku-ji.

   A. It was built by Ashikaga Yoshimasa.

   B. Why there is no silver leaf on its surface although it was named Silver pavilion?

   C. Its rock and sand garden is also famous.

. The third site is Kiyomizu-dera.

  A. It is one of the most visited sites of the city, and is always crowded with tourists.

  B. The main hall of Kiyomizy-dera is famous for its big veranda, which is supported by hundreds of pillars.

  C. There is a waterfall beneath the main hall which has three channels of water.

. I'd like to introduce three well-known Kyoto food briefly.

   A. Powdered green tea called matcha is the most famous specialty of Kyoto among foreigners.

   B. Most of Japanese think that Kyoto's tofu is the most delicious and delicate one in Japan. 

   C. The last one is Yatuhashi, one of the most popular souvenirs of Kyoto.

Conclusion:

. The places I just have introduced are just a small part of Kyoto.

. I hope my speech can help you understanding little more about Kyoto, and will be helpful when you one day have a chance to visit there.
